Heather Rivera

Heather Rivera explores different concepts through her photography, her series Compassion and Isolation was commissioned by Juxtaposed Gallery as part of a new process of delivering art and to introduce the work of the Manhattan based Artist.

The series explores the view point not typically associated of the city, delivering scenes of the public in unique settings each isolated and yet very much part of a chain of compassion shared between strangers and friends. Heathers candid photography focuses on empathy, of the surrounding environment, events and moments we all miss on a daily basis.

Artist Statement:

Living near one of the most densely populated cities has brought forth much creativity in my life. A trip to Manhattan always uncovers something new and exciting. The people, give off a vibe of hustle and bustle, but on occasion there are slower times. Stolen moments in time where even the busiest person can be found enjoying a calm minute or two. These moments are what I look for, I love how even the most hardened New Yorker can display even if briefly a time of quiet, compassion and relaxation among the constant hum of the city around them.

Heather Rivera was born in Port Jefferson, NY in 1977. She has managed to break the photographer's mold by learning techniques on her own, and never being formally trained. Her self-taught photography has been regarded as daring, bold, and innovative by others in the photography world. Heather has a keen eye for what other people often see as mundane situations, and puts a new twist on the everyday norm. Her conceptual art is often dark, full of emotions, and truly makes the viewer rethink their initial reactions.
