Susan Martin

London Based Artist Susan Martin has recently been awarded a MA in Photography with Distinction at Kingston University.

Photographing various ceilings, using ambience and light installed from above, Susan has projected these photographs onto the folds. We then see the current work where titled Ceilings become a photographic interrogation taking the viewer from one space to another. At this juncture the light source acts as a playful part of the investigation as an ensemble of photographic process that produce a space in where to think; to reflect, to find solution, to create, to ponder. Lights can be associated as positively the ‘light bulb Eureka’ moment and at times negatively when lighting design is poor and startling to the eyes.

“I began making the work in considering the ceiling space, a space that we may look up to in thought and possibility of connection to the Universe beyond, being also our own experience in relation to other.”
